Buying a House in Wokingham
Wokingham is an historic market town, known for its safe, family-centred atmosphere. It is a popular spot for those looking to move out of London to find more space and better schools. With plenty of amenities in the town itself, as well as great transport links to Reading and London, it is no surprise that property here is in demand.
Our Wokingham building surveyors inspect a wide variety of property in the town and surrounging areas, from grade II listed homes to new builds.
Some of the most frequently surveyed house types in the Wokingham area are the chalet style properties that were common from the 1920s through to the 1950s. Inspired by their alpine namesakes, these were popular in the area and are characterised by generous plots, usually with large gardens and garages. The houses have gables or hipped roofs, sloping ceilings, and are often rendered or timber-clad in areas.
Many of the properties we survey were originally built as bungalows, and have since been substantially extended and altered, converting them into two-storey houses. Such properties are highly desirable as family homes, and as such command a substantial purchase price.
There are, however, plenty of more affordable properties in Wokingham, such as those built in the latter part of the 20th century, like the 1980s end of terrace pictured.
Wokingham continues to be a popular town, and house building has continued, with our surveyors often called out to modern builds such as the 2017 home shown in the final photo.

Building surveys in Finchampstead, Barkham and other surrounding areas.
The villages surrounding Wokingham are a great choice for many buyers looking for a more rural lifestyle, yet within easy reach of all the amenities that the surrounding towns and cities offer.
We have surveyed some fantastic properties in the village of Finchampstead, just south of Wokingham. For a village, Finchampstead has a staggering amount of facilities, from independent schools to excellent bars, cafes and pubs, and even its own country park. The houses are impressive too, from substantial, attractive 1920s detached properties to 21st century modern chalets.
With a population roughly a third the size of Finchampstead, Barkham is a great option for buyers looking for a more intimate village atmosphere. It has its fair share of early 20th Century large detached properties, but you can also find modern new builds on estates such as Dowles Barn Close.
Sitting between the two villages in terms of size and amenities, Crowthorne is another great choice. The village is home to a variety of houses, from modern chalet-style properties, to detached country piles, and purpose built flats.
